Thank goodness for Thanksgiving
Hello and happy thanksgiving the other day. I gave thanks! Well, in that I thanked my American friend for inviting me over for my first ever Thanksgiving dinner. Mmmm, it's like Christmas dinner but with slightly odd changes. Not odd as in bad (because it was all delicious) but odd as in:no Yorkshire puds
mash instead of roasties
sweet potato cooked with pecans and maple syrup
English husband had ensured there were roast parsnips but E said she'd never had them before coming to the UK. Imagine!
Other American things observed:
*I wore red (no white) and blue
*We heard the story of the first Thanksgiving and all got a bit teary at how the EVIL PILGRIM CHILDREN all slaughtered the KIND AND HELPFUL Algonquins. Where would Dorothy Parker be without the Algonquin and where would we be without her?
*Pumpkin pie, yum yum
*Eating and eating and eating and eating
*I told everyone about my winning a trip to NEW YORK!!!! YES! I - WON - A - TRIP - TO - NEW - YORK!!!
My favourite Anthropology graduate friends were there so I was able to potificate on the evolution of cultural diversity some, too. Ooh, and E is pregnant! My second pregnant friend! Oh - it's only just striking me right now what BIG NEWS that is.
So big that last night I dreamed *I* was three months pregnant and I wasn't sure until I made out the shape of a wee foetus in my belly, which I could kind of pull out to look at.
I thought, ohhh GOD, now is NOT the right time to have a baby, how on earth am I going to support it?
And then I looked at the tiny baby smiling up AND WAVING at me and thought, oh shit, I've made friends with the wee pup now, there's no way I can abort it.
Terrible!
