Out with the negative, in with the positive

Today I went to a Buddhist meditation thing. It was a small class and like something out of a sitcom set in a community centre. However, the meditation part was good even though I could only focus for like 2 seconds at a time: it was still relaxing.

I didn't quite expect so much about Buddhist teachings though, and I started thinking about how little I like preaching/religious teachings. Because I don't like to follow anything blindly, obv, and I had quite a lot of questions but was too shy to ask them. And I thought that stuff I learned on my degree was the only stuff that I bought fully into.

But the lesson today was about compassion for others and that if you cherish others it will make you happy, in manner of letting someone pull out in front of you and how nice that makes both parties feel. Esp compared to revving up to not let someone pull in front of you. So that was good and I'm going to think about it as I've deffo recently been thinking more in the selfish way.

Talking about this, some people thought he was basically saying, be well behaved and have good manners. Preaching to the converted because the people there were granny well-behaved types. But to explain better what he meant he said 'it's not about doing good, it's about being happy'.

Which is nice.

Apart from needing a caveat for the 'killing people makes me happy' people. But I will now try to be nice to the people I work with. I like being nice but sometimes it's hard to, innit, when people are giving you interminable piles of hideously boring work to do. PURE WHITE LIGHT, PURE WHITE LIGHT OUT WITH THE BLACK NEGATIVITY, PURE WHITE LIGHT.

Aah, better again.

In other thoughts, I think it's time someone remixed Joanna Newsom with a banging techno beat. PPP sounds a bit slow to me now.
