Her Dark Material

The best kind of thing happened to me this morning. My brother, who works nightshifts, texted me at 6am (to tell me he saw my lookalike on London telly ... what he was doing watching London telly when he lives in the Midlands, I don't know...). How I handled this information at that small hour of the morning was to read the text, immediately forget about it, roll over and think 'oh Christ, 6am, only one hour before I have to get up again.' ... And then remember, IT'S NOT MONDAY! IT'S SATURDAY! BEST MOMENT EVER!

But I still had to get up eventually, at 10.30, cos this afternoon we had tickets to see the first part of H!s D@rk Materials at the NT. HURRAH! It was about a year ago that I started reading them and I was almost - almost - as breathless watching the play as I was reading the books. Although, I really can't imagine ever being as excited by any literature again as I was reading The Subtle Knife.

And then I met my dad for a curry - masala dosa, massive and tasty as anything - before he travelled back home from a day's meeting. Small curry house and on the table a knight's move away from us was a doctor from dad's practice. Good job I wasn't a date of his. Although dad did struggle to think how to introduce me to the chap - ended up that I wasn't 'dad's daughter' but 'my brother's sister'. Well.

I've just made a sampler of good good music for Barnaby, so if anyone who's read this far down wants to be rewarded for their patience by a cd, leave me a note. bArb, if you're reading, do you want to risk the music hand-off again? Maybe sending across the Atlantic will be more successful than across the city...
