Champagne society

We celebrated, oh something, today at work and were given champagne and canapes. Except that I was on the loo when everyone went down and all the canapes had gone by the time I got there. Perhaps for the best, knowing the standard of our catering.

But our MD has about a hundred children under the age of 10 (and she's only about 35 herself) and is always razzing off to relieve the nanny - and this meant we had to have our champage at 3pm. Like, seriously, 3pm? That might be ok if you had nothing else to do after guzzling the fizz, but the area had cleared by 4.30, leaving a full 60 minutes of trying to work.

Again, that wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have a waiter who looked exactly like a heterosexual Tom Cruise insisting on constantly topping up your glass. (I had one and a half glasses and everyone else had about 15; it's true, see, I can't drink booze anymore, they can't even give it to me.)

But the interlude meant I could chat to Rachel and tell her about how a lady made me cry by telling me I was a failure*.
